Veljo Tormis is one of Estonia’s most prominent composers and he is well known for his study of ancient folk song. Through most of his work as a composer his first and life-long source of inspiration has been ancient Estonian folk song, the so-called runo song. Most of the compositions in the present collection are based on these melodies and are derived from this tradition.
